Aleksandr Fadeev is the International Relations Coordinator of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 Foundation. Aleksandr’s background and experience lie at the intersection of culture, education, and international collaboration.
As a member of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 organising team, Aleksandr has extensive experience in managing sustainable relationships and strengthening international networks with both local and international institutions as main stakeholders of Tartu 2024. His work has included organising large-scale international events, such as the Opening Ceremony of Tartu 2024. His experience includes organising and holding international culture-related events in the diplomatic representations of Estonia in Berlin, Vilnius and Brussels, including the European Capitals of Culture Tartu, Bodø and Bad Ischl – Salzkammergut 2024 joint presentation at the European Parliament in Brussels (Belgium) in November 2023.
Aleksandr has represented the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 at international forums and conferences as both a speaker, for instance in a recent Baltic Sea Tourism Conference in the European Capital of Culture Oulu 2026, and a moderator, for instance at the Hybrid European Democracy Festival in Tartu in May 2024.
Aleksandr Fadeev has a background in science, having earned a PhD in the field of Semiotics from the University of Tartu in 2022. Aleksandr has published his research results in various prestigious international academic journals, including Sign Systems Studies and Springer. His research has led to impactful cultural-educational projects, including the digital platform “Education on Screen”, which introduces Estonian history and identity to school students by analysing contemporary culture, media, autocommunication in culture and by learning about the principles of transmediality. Through this project Aleksandr has given a number of lectures, seminars and workshops in prestigious Estonian and European educational and cultural institutions, including Tartu University, Tallinn University, University of Warsaw, Estonian National Museum, and so on. Aleksandr’s experience in the field of education also includes the development of learning materials and courses for both school students and teachers in Estonia. Within his academic work Aleksandr has an international cooperation and the Marie Curie Actions Fellowship post-doc project with the KU Leuven University (Belgium).
